Our guest illustrator for the day is renowed author/Illustrator Jane Tanner
who will be demonstrating on the big screen between 12noon and 3pm.
This is a chance to have a chat with Jane and have some books
personally signed and you might get a glimpse of some of her
work for a new picture book, due out early next year.

This retrospective
exhibition, featuring key works by Rachel Tonkin from a career
spanning five decades in book illustration, botanical art, print making,
painting and sculpture, is being shown at Dromkeen Homestead from October 2016 to March 2017.
A major focus is the art from her own award-winning children’s picture books including Willy & the Ogre,To the Goldfields , When I was a Kid and Leaf Litter. Rachel’s
incredibly accurate and detailed scenes of Australian life filled with
colour, imagination and humour, create new stories for children &
adults to share.
Two wonderful illustrations from her classic book Leaf Litter are now available for sale as limited edition giclee prints.
ANZAC ILLUSTRATED exhibition
With Rememberance Day this month, and the 50th anniversary of the battle
of Long Tan in the Vietmanese War, it's also worth remembering that
Books Illustrated has two ANZAC themed exhibitions available for hire. ANZAC Illustrated - print exhibition

Judith Rossell is an author and illustrator who has created award-winning books for children of all ages.
Her novel Withering-by -Sea : A Stella Montgomery Intrigue, a
mystery set in Victorian England, has won many awards
including Indie Award, Children's and YA, 2015 and the ABIA Book of the
Year for Older Children, 2015.

Birds of a Feather: Illustrators of Iran
Good Eddy, Ludlow Creative Space and Dirt Lane Press are pleased to
announce Australia's first showcase of narrative artworks by leading
contemporary Iranian illustrators.
'With a focus on birds - from the humble sparrow to the flamboyant
mythological simmer - this vibrant selection of images demonstrates both
the richness of contemporary narrative illustration and the depth of
Persian culture'.
We were very excited to hear this exhibition was being curated, and now it's ready to open!
Exhibitions of overseas illustrations are rarely shown in Australia but
they are so important to compare and contrast with our own book art and
important in the development of our knowledge of international stories,
styles and voices.
Showing at Ludlow Creative Space
- 187 Lords Place, Orange NSW from November 12 to December
3, we hope the exhibition will tour to other galleries in
Australia.

Shortlist announced for the 2017 Astrid Lindgren Memorial Award
Congratulations to the nine Australian authors and Illustrators who have been nominated for the 2017 Award: Randa Abdel-Fattah, Ursuala Dubosarsky, Libby Gleeson, Morris Gleitzman, Gus Gordon, Leigh Hobbs, Alison Lester, Kirsty Murray and Margaret Wild. It is a great honour to be among 226 candidates nominated for this award from 60 countries.
The Astrid Lindgren Award (ALMA) is the world's largest award for
children's and young adult literature. The award is given annually to a
single laureate or to several. Authors, illustrators, oral storytellers
and reading promoters are eligible. The award is designed to promote
interest in children's and young adult literature.
Author Meg Rosoff is the recipient of the 2016 award
The 2016 Prime Minister's Literary Awards are announced in Canberra on November 8.
Shortlisted books in the Children's Fiction section are Adelaide's Secret World by Elise Hurst (Allen & Unwin), Sister Heart by Sally Morgan (Fremantle Press), Perfect by Danny Parker & Freya Blackwood (HardieGrant Egmont), The Greatest Gatsby: A Visual Book of Grammar by Tohby Riddle (Penguin Random House Australia) and Mr Huff by Anna Walker (PenguinRandom House Australia)

Two Australian Illustrators, Maree Coote & Franki Sparke, have had work shortlsted in the final selection for the 2017 Nami Island International Picture Book Concours.
Illustrations of the shortlisted candidates will be exhibited during the 2017 Nami Island Book Festival.
There were 1777 entries from 89 nations submitted - only 2% from Oceania!
Nami Island is a facinating island in South Korea promoting arts, and
Illustration in particular, through its Concourse every two years which
is gaining international recognition.

Hush Concerts
These concerts will launch A Piece of Quiet, volume 16 of the Hush Music series produced by The Hush Foundation. Watch this video for some background to this facinating project
This new album is a unique collaboration between three of Australia's
most loved musicians. Inspired by stories of young cancer patients and
other children, multi ARIA Award -winners singer-songwriter Lior and
vocal quartet The Idea of North, along with renowned composer Elena
Kats-Chernin used the children's stories to grow a collection of music
that conveys the chidren's feelings, hopes and dreams in a way that
resonates equally with adult listeners.
A different collaboration between 30 Australian authors and illustrators resulted in The Hush Treasure Book, an inspirational book to be shared by all the family. Available for sale through Books Illustrated.
Brain Nankervis hosts this annual Trivia night to raise funds to support
literacy programs for children in remote Aboriginal & Torres Strait
Islander communities across Australia. As well as trivia, a fabulous
range of prizes will be available for silent auction.

Reading Australia celebrates its 3rd birthday!
