Chinese Publisher opens branch Melbourne
Phoenix Publishers & Media Group, one of the largest publishing
houses in China, and 16th largest in the world, has chosen
Melbourne as the place for their new branch in
Australia. As well as strengthening trade connections with the
Australian market and Publishing Industry they aim to develop cultural
ties. An agreement between Phoenix and Melbourne University Press was
signed during the ceremony.
Due to our recent projects and consequent publishing connections in
China, Books Illustrated was invited to attend the launch at the
Langham Hotel on Wednesday October 23. Ann James' presentation
focused on a personal connection she has developed with a subdivision of
Phoenix, Oriental Babies in Nanjing, who have published three of her
books with another negotiation in progress. She also focused on the
future possibilities of cultural exchange, with exhibitions of
illustration and exchanges between illustrators in Australia and China.
Books Illustrated at Fed Square Book Market
Saturday Nov 9 - with Andrew Weldon
Andrew Weldon will be promoting the fantastic new four-book series, Don't Look Now (Allen
& Unwin) about taking risks and flying high. A unique
collaboration from children's book legend Paul Jennings and brilliant
cartoonist Andrew Weldon. Andrew will be demonstrating and signing books at Fed Square between 2pm and 4pm.
'Don't Look Now': The
other kids don't see things the same way as me. I spend a lot of
time imagining things. I just don't get it. Inside my head I am not the
same as other kids.
is an ordinary boy, who dreams of being famous. And he has a secret that
might just help him realise his dream. Because Ricky can fly. Truly. He
can really fly. But there's a hitch. He can only fly when absolutely no
one is looking. If a person, an animal or a bird sees him while he's
flying, he will fall out of the sky and almost certainly die. But Ricky
is desperate. Will he risk flying in public, just for a shot at fame?
We'll also have stock of Andrew's warm and funny picture book for a younger audience - Lazy Daisy, Busy Lizzie.
