The Hello! from Australia exhibition on the Australian Collective stand
Illustrator Anne Ryan on the creator's table

Report on 2017 Bologna Childen's Book Fair, April 2 to 6
Books Illustrated was proud to have been part of reinstating a collective Australian stand at this year's book Fair in April. The buzz around the stand reafirmed its importance in registering Australia's presence at this preeminent international forum for children's books and book illustration. This presence was highlighted further this year as two of the independent publishers on the Australian collective stand took out prestigious Bologna Book Fair awards - Maree Coote's Spellbound, Melbournestyle Books, won the non fiction Ragazzi Award and Berbay Books won best publisher 2017, Oceania region.
13 creators attended the fair and took part on the creator's table at the stand .....
Our Australian Children's Laureate, Leigh Hobbs, attended the fair and participated in International Laureate Summit events - take a look at the Laureate website.

After Bologna we had a fabulous time with friends in Florence and spent a memorable Easter in Umbria. We returned home via London where we caught up with (our now UK colleague) Justine Alltimes and were lucky enough to have time to visit both marvellous TATE Galleries: Modern and Britain. AND we visited the House of Illustration. The last time we visited they were just preparing to open and the paint was still wet.  It was great to see it now in full swing with three very interesting exhibitions. A beauty in the small Quentin Blake gallery (dedicated to featuring illustrators of his choice) currently features the energetic and inspiring drawings of Linda Kitson. We were also very fortunate to see a brilliant production of The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night Time (from the book by Mark Haddon). If you have a chance, you must not miss it!.
