Report from Sydney Writers Festival and the Visiting International Publishers program
Last month we had the pleasure of exhibiting the Hello! from Australia 2015/16 exhibition
as part of the Australia Council's Visiting International Publishers
(VIPS) program, delivered alongside the Sydney Writers Festival.
Ann Haddon, Ann James and Justine Alltimes met with the visiting children's publishers to
introduce them to books featured in the exhibition and other key
illustrated titles representing the broader Australian Children's
publishing industry.
Hello! from Australia reinforces how strong connections with different cultures can be successfully developed through illustration.
Yuko Tanaka, Chief Editor, Kawade Shobo Shinsha Ltd – Tokyo, Japan, introduced us to a beautiful, innovative book Knock! Knock! by Japanese illustrator Kaori Takahashi. Originally published in English by the Indian publisher Tara Books, now published in Japanese by Kawade Shobo Shinsha.

Marc Martin "My book 'A River' was selected to be a part of the 2015 Nami
Concours exhibition on Nami Island. The Nami Concours occurs alongside
the The Nami Island International Children’s Book Festival (NAMBOOK),
and allowed my work to be exhibited amongst renowned illustrators from
across the globe to a large number of visitors at the event. I would
encourage any picture-book maker interested in showcasing their work to
an international audience to enter the concours."
