We really enjoyed our time exhibiting at the Clunes Book Town Festival over the weekend of May 4 & 5. Ann James hardly stopped drawing all weekend, so it was good to have Judy Watson as our guest illustrator on the Sunday - thanks Judy! It was a good program with lots for both adults and children, good food and good weather  ...  we are looking forward to next year already!

Zart Art/CBCA Seminar: June 13

Don't miss the next in this wonderful series of seminars jointly presented by the Victorian branch of the Children's Book Council of Australia.
So far the series has given us extraordinary insights into the creative process of illustrators working in the field of children's books ... this one promises to be just as good.
Serious -or Funny? looks at how illustrators, noted for their sense of humour, tackle serious themes. Hear Terry Denton, Craig Smith and Andrew Weldon discuss this topic in a session chaired by Chris Oughtred.
Numbers are limited so booking is necessary.

Open House with Julie Vivas: June 16

One of the most Iconic Australian Picture Books Possum Magic written by Mem Fox and illustrated by Julie Vivas celebrates its 30th anniversary this year.
We know that there have been and will be more celebrations around Australia for the book, but we'd like to have a celebration for illustrator and the wonderful illustrations she created 30 years ago.

Come and meet Julie at Books Illustrated on Sunday June 16, 1pm to 5pm. See some of her original Possum Magic sketches and illustrations and find out how Hush the invisible Mouse turned into the Possum we all know and love!  She will also have some illustrations to show from her latest picture book Davey & the Duckling soon to be released through Penguin Books and another of her well loved picture books Let the celebrations Begin has just been released in the Walker Australian Classic series. So there's certainly lots to be celebrating!

Books will be available for sale and signing.
Please let us know if you plan to visit on Sunday 16 to meet Julie ... so we can have enough vegemite sandwiches at hand!

NEW PRINTS

Two fabulous new prints by Colin Thompson which can be personalised for a special occasion.

Saturday 22nd June
Join us to celebrate Charlotte Lance's picture book, A Really Super Hero, published by Allen & Unwin.
Charlotte has been an illustrator in Melbourne for five years. She has worked predominately in book publishing but also has illustrated for children's T-shirt label BOY GIRL and worked for design agencies and magazines.

"An utterly charming book for every little girl and boy who wants to be a super hero, and for every parent who keeps that dream alive.

I want to be a hero and a really super one, so my mum sewed my undies with an S upon the bum. Sometimes superheroes get everything right and effortlessly save the world, and sometimes ... they don't.

A wonderfully warm and funny celebration of imagination, play, and the importance of having a good sidekick."

Meet Charlotte 2 to 4pm - have a book personally signed and see how she created the illustrations for this book.
The Federation Square Book Market runs each Saturday from 10am to 5pm.

Limited edition printsoriginal illustrations and books (many signed) can be viewed and purchased by making an appointment to visit our showrooms.
