August often stands out in the calendar for being even more of a Book Month than most and this year is no exception – especially if you are in Melbourne!

As well as the Melbourne Writers Festival (@MelbWritersFest), the Children’s Book Council of Australia (CBCA) celebrates its 70th Anniversary and the national 2015 CBCA Book of the Year Awards will be announced in Melbourne on August 21.

Launch of The Hush Treasure Book August 6

We've just returned from a very special event for the launch of a very special project.

#TheHushTreasureBook was launched at Government House by The Honourable Linda Dessau AM, Governor of Victoria (photo at left).

Many people may be aware of the HUSH Music Collection which has created soothing and uplifting music to help children and families deal with the stresses of hospital. This project, instigated by Dr Catherine Crock from the Royal Melbourne Hospital, has now seen 14 CDs produced.

The Hush Treasure Book is a new literary adventure in this project. The book, produced with the intention of the Hush Music project, is a collection of illustrated stories by some of Australia's most highly regarded authors and illustrators.  Like the music created this collection of joyful and reflective stories is not just for those dealing with sickness and difficult times, it is for everyone. And like the CDs already produced, the book will be donated to children's hospitals and is also available in bookshops.

It was great that many of the creators of the book were able to attend the launch including Jane Godwin, Anna Walker, Doug Macleod, Craig Smith, Bob Graham, Karen Briggs, Danny Katz, Mitch Vane, Nick Bland, Judith Rossell, Glenda Millard, Ann James, Karen Tayleur, Jacqui Grantford, Jane Tanner, Victoria Rohan's family, Bruce Whatley, Kevin Burgemeestre and Lee Burgemeestre (designer).

The HUSH Foundation team present included Dr Catherine Crock, Bill Duff, Kristen Sheehan and Lucy Belfrage. Other special guests included Susan McClaine, Albert Ullin, Erica Wagner, from Allen & Unwin Books and Mick Smith, Splitting Image printers.
