Month of Literature... 
August is the month for literature to be celebrated in all sorts of ways … 
 
National Bookshop Day Saturday August 10. 
Australia’s only celebration of bookshops! Bookshops around the country will be giving away over 25,000 free books, hosting events, readings, with a wide range of other activities. The day kicks off at 10am with William McInnes, one of Australia’s best loved authors and actors, announcing the winner of the ‘Australia’s Favourite Bookshop’ competition at his local, The Sun Bookshop, in Yarraville, Vic.
Drop into Books Illustrated Showroom 11am to 5pm
to celebrate picture books and illustrations.


Children’s Book Week August 17 to 23The Children’s Book Council of Australia announces the winners
of their prestigious 
Books of the Year Awards on Friday August 18.
Children's Book Week is a focus for many Libraries and schools around Australia and there will be events around the country. Checkout interesting options in your area and get involved!

 Melbourne Writer’s Festival August 22 to Sept 18
National Reading Hour (5pm to 6pm on Saturday August 24)
Join authors and illustrators including  Morris Gleitzman, Sally Rippin, Aki Fukuoka, Ann James and Andy Griffiths for a fun lead- up event to the National Reading Hour (5pm to 6pm on Saturday August 24). This event has been planned by the Melbourne Writer’s Festival and they invite you to be part of it from 4pm to 5pm.  What’s more it’s a free event! 

Story Box Library
 This exciting new initiative for the Australian children's book world will launch it's official website later in August. Check it out and if you'd like to support this initiative one way is through their pozible campaign.

Little Golden Books and Vintage Original Illustration Collection


Books Illustrated is launching a unique array of original vintage Illustrations from overseas. This collection, which is for sale, includes illustrations from books that many people may recall from their childhood – eg. Mother Goose, The Pink Panther and the Fancy Party and Raggedy Ann and the Cookie Snatcher.  A rare opportunity to purchase a complete set of illustrations from one of these classic books and also individual artworks.

Preparing this promotion has prompted us to reminisce about books that were special to us in childhood. We’d like to invite you, our Books Illustrated friends, to share your photographs of favourite book covers and illustrations from your childhood.

Four intriguing images from Robotales presents Professor Willouby’s Last Robot, written by Luce C. Jackson, illustrated by Antoine Toniolo and published by Rubitron


And finally a new image by Leigh Hobbs of an all-time favourite character Old Tom - Old Tom at the Seaside.  A precursor to the release of a bindup of all the Old Tom stories next year. 





















 
    Saturday 17th August 
Celebrate the start of Children’s Book Week and meet and watch guest illustrators Ann James & Madeleine Meyer, at work from 12noon to 5pm.

  Madeleine Meyer is the author & illustrator of the intriguing picture book Carpet, published by Windy Hollow Books.
 A whimsical journey through the life of a beautiful carpet — from its weaving in Persia to a rich Western household, through an opportunity shop to a new life with a modern family — in which the carpet experiences all the highs and lows and joys and sorrows of its generations of human owners in their daily lives.


 A chance to chat to these artists and have books signed.
 
  
The Federation Square Book Market runs each Saturday from 10am to 5pm.

Limited edition printsoriginal illustrations and books (many signed) can be viewed and purchased by making an appointment to visit our showrooms.
