Champions Read is
a most appropriate theme for this year! It will be used for Book
Week celebrations in schools and libraries around Australia.
The images and designs for the theme this year are by
Nikki Greenberg joint winner of the 2011 picture book of the year for her graphic novel Hamlet,
published by Allen & Unwin.
The CBCA Books of the Year Awards will be announced at 12noon in Adelaide on August 17

August 23: Seminar War books for kids - Why?
Held in Children's Book Week, this is the next in the highly successful series of seminars organised jointly by Zart Art and CBCA, Vic Branch.
Editor Sarah Brenan will be participating chair with Andrew McLean,
Michel Streich and Mark Wilson discussing their books with a war theme:
Are there, or should be, any constraints in war books for
kids? Should there be a sense of hope? The evening includes supper, book
sales and signing.

Bark! Bark! Bark!
An exhibition of Terry Denton’s illustrations from the Gasp! books, the Gasp! animated TV series, the Just! series, the Bad Book, the Very Bad Book, The 13-Storey Treehouse, and his other works with Andy Griffiths.
This newly curated exhibtion of Terry Denton's illustration shows some of this pair's most wacky humour.
It's at the Frankston Arts centre - Cube 37 Gallery, Davey St Frankston from August 6 to 26.

The Lost Thing by Shaun Tan
From Book to Film: The Art of Story

This exhibition, curated by Books Illustrated Gallery, begins with
sketches, dummy book and final original illustrations for the picture
book The Lost Thing.
It moves through the collaborative process with members of the film team
at Passion Pictures, to create the animated film – a ten year creative
journey.The Lost Thing is multi-award-winning – most famously, the Academy Award (Oscar) for best Short Animation, 2011. Shaun Tan is the award-winning author and illustrator of many books including The Arrival, The Red Tree, Tales from Outer Suburbia and The Bird King.
A program involving schools will see over 800 children visiting the exhibition during August.
Signed book, prints and DVD’s available for sale throughout the exhibition.

Goodnight Mice! wins Prime Minister's Award!
We are thrilled that a picture book, and this particular picture book
written by Frances Watts, illustrated by Judy Watson and published by ABC Books,
has won the recently announced 2012 Prime Minister's Award for Children's Fiction!
Limited Edition prints of original illustrations by Judy Watson from Goodnight Mice!
are now available for sale, as are signed copies of the book.

Books Illustrated attends on one Saturday a month - usually the second Saturday of the month -
when we feature a new book or an illustrator demonstrating on the Atrium screen.
